Resident Feature - Meet Jane Matousek

Resident Feature - Meet Jane Matousek
Getting to know each of our residents at our senior living Lake in the Hills community is one of the best perks of becoming a part of our family.

We want you to get to know them as well. This December, we are featuring our assisted living community resident, Jane Matousek, who shared a bit about her life.

Jane was born in Chicago, Illinois and she raised her family in Skokie, Illinois. When her family outgrew their home in Skokie, they relocated to Algonquin, Illinois where she lived for 63 years.

Jane and her husband, a World War II veteran, have six children, one girl and five boys, as well as fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She stayed at home while raising her children and started working once they were adults to put her children through college. Three of her children were attending college at the same time for a few years.

Christmas is Jane's favorite holiday as she loved to host her family’s Christmas Eve celebration at her home each year in Algonquin. It was the only time of year where all of her friends and family could gather together and Jane often hosted 30 to 40 people each year at her Christmas Eve celebrations.

The most pivotal moment in history for Jane was the attack on Pearl Harbor; she was only in the 7th grade at the time. All of the men she grew up with made the decision to go into military service following the attack, including her husband.

Jane loves to sing and dance and even said it’s her special talent. The most memorable place she’s traveled to was a visit to Ireland with her sister. Jane says that creating her family is her greatest accomplishment.

Melody Living became Jane’s home after her daughter-in-law researched the community and thought it would be a good fit.

Jane loves playing all sorts of card games with fellow residents. She especially enjoys Mexican Train and is even part of Mexican Train Club where residents get together to play their favorite game.

Jane enjoys making new friends and her advice is to be kind to everyone. We have so many other stories to share and look forward to sharing more resident features from our senior living community with you soon!

We hope you come by to visit and discover what a Life in Harmony™ is like at our assisted living and memory care community.
