Melody Living Resident Feature - John Engbretson

​We love getting to know every single one of our residents at our senior living Lake in the Hills community, and we want you to get to know them as well. This month, we are featuring our community resident, John Engbretson.
 
John was born in Chicago Illinois, in an area called Logan Square. After high school, John left Logan Square to attend Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he studied Business Administration. During his last year of college, he met his beautiful wife, Judy. They married in June of 1966 and moved to their first home in Crystal Lake, Illinois soon after, which he considers a pivotal moment in his life. 

​John began his career as an Assistant Cashier, at Continental Illinois National Bank in downtown Chicago. Just after five years of service, he was promoted to become one of the many Vice-Presidential positions for the company. He stayed with the company for over 20 years. 

​After retiring from Continental Bank, John started working as a Bank Officer at Home State Bank in Crystal Lake. He was thrilled to have found a job in his town of residence. John then retired after 25 years of service with Home State Bank.
 
During John's free time he enjoys collecting stamps and became a HO Railroad enthusiast. He enjoys working with his hands and helping others as a Resident Ambassador at Melody Living. John's favorite holiday is Christmas because he loves all of the beautiful decorations during the holiday season and his favorite place to visit is Ephraim, Wisconsin, at his family’s vacation retreat. 

John chose Melody Living because his wife needed extra care and he knew they both could live here together. Many family friends and work colleagues also recommended Melody Living to him during his search. 

What John enjoys the most about Melody Living is the gathering of the residents daily, he really enjoys engaging with his peers and finding new things to do that interest him through our activities calendar.

​A piece of advice John wanted to share is to, “Keep an open mind to what you are told, and what you are asked to do.”
