This month we are honored to spotlight Russell Gable, our assisted living resident of the month. We are so excited to have Russell as a part of our Melody Living Lake in the Hills senior community. Born on September 16, 1928, in Elgin, Illinois, Russell’s roots run deep in the heart of the Midwest. Raised on a farm, Russell spent his childhood surrounded by the simplicity and beauty of rural life. Growing up with only his parents and having no siblings, he graduated from Plato Township High School on May 31st, 1946. A hardworking individual, Russell ventured into the world of over-the-road truck driving while also contributing to the family farm.
Reflecting on his favorite memories, Russell vividly recalled a trip out West when he was just 10 years old. Swimming in Salt Lake, picnicking near Estes Park, witnessing a sunset at the Grand Canyon, and encountering bears at Yellowstone Park left an indelible mark on his young heart. Russell's life was marked by notable achievements, including marrying Betty and earning the prestigious "Million Mile" accident-free award from Borg Warner Transportation. As a young child, he found joy in collecting foreign stamps, a hobby that reflected his curious and adventurous spirit. Later in life, he became an avid bowler, participating in a bowling league and honing his skills twice a week. As the need for assistance in his daily living arose, Russell's stepson and wife conducted extensive research on assisted living facilities in the Algonquin area. Recognizing the importance of being closer to family, Russell made the move to Melody Living, where he found a welcoming community and a relaxed lifestyle.
