Meet Our Memory Care Resident of the Month Dr. Bailie Rosenthal

4/15/2024

Dr Bailie Rosenthal
Meet Dr. Bailie Rosenthal, our memory care resident of the month at Melody Living Lake in the Hills! We love getting to know each of our residents here at Melody Living and we hope you enjoy getting to know more about Bailie.

Dr. Bailie Rosenthal is a woman of remarkable accomplishments, known for her dedication to education and her unwavering commitment to her students. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Chicago, Bailie's journey is one of passion, perseverance, and profound impact.

With two children, four grandchildren, and two great-granddogs, Bailie's family has always been at the center of her life. Bailie’s favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because it’s a non-denominational holiday that gives you time to spend with family and be thankful for all the good things in your life.

Though they both attended the same high school, Bailee didn’t meet her husband, David, until after a transfer to the University of Michigan where he was attending. David proposed to Baile in her car, he had put a pair of white satin gloves in the sun visor of the car with a wedding ring attached to them. Bailie stated she didn’t wear gloves so she put them back in the visor without noticing the ring before David asked her to take another look. It’s safe to say she said yes!

Bailie's educational journey began at the University of Chicago, where she embarked on her path to becoming an educator. Armed with two Ph. D.s in Child Development and Speech Therapy, Bailie embarked on a career dedicated to enriching the lives of children and families. Her first role as a speech therapist in a Detroit school district laid the foundation for a distinguished career. Bailie's crowning achievement was her forty-year tenure as Principal of the Bussey Center for Early Childhood Education, where she touched the lives of countless students and families.

Bailie is especially proud of all her students who came and went over the years. Her husband loves to reminisce with her about how she prided herself on ensuring everyone who attended her school graduated with a high school diploma.

Many of her students attended college as well. Bailie’s greatest accomplishment was when the vice president at the time visited her school to review her schooling program along with the governor of Southfield, Michigan.

She was also invited to the State of the City address by Southfield’s Mayor. Another highlight from her career was when she was called by Ted Kennedy to ask for her council on opening more headstart schools. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Bailie's impact extended far beyond the walls of the classroom.

She held evening classes for families, offering guidance and support to parents of children with special needs, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her community. Bailie's dedication to her students earned her widespread recognition, including a park named in her honor and the opportunity to advise national leaders on early childhood education initiatives.

As Bailie and David entered their golden years, they made the decision to move to Melody Living in Lake in the Hills, seeking a supportive community where they could continue to thrive. Their daughter played an instrumental role in helping them find the perfect fit, and they have cherished every moment spent in their new home. Reflecting on her life's journey, Bailie shares her wisdom with others, reminding us that problems are opportunities waiting to be seized.

We invite you to discover a Life in Harmony™ like Bailie and her husband have at Melody Living Memory Care. To learn more or to schedule a tour, give us a call at 847.957.7070 or visit our contact page.
