Meet Melody Living’s Assisted Living Resident of the Month

Meet Connie, Melody Living's assisted living resident of the month! We love getting to know each of our residents here at Melody Living Lake in the Hills and we hope you enjoy getting to know more about Connie as our featured resident of the month.
 
Connie Slomka was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. She received her nursing degree from the Little Company of Mary School of Nursing in 1961.

​Connie worked as an ICU phone triage nurse and cardiac nurse for many years. She has three children and two grandchildren. Once her children were adults, Connie decided to go back to school for her BSN from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. Connie retired in 2017.

​Throughout her life, Connie enjoyed activities such as crocheting and sewing. Her talent for sewing was even utilized in the making of her daughter’s prom dresses. Connie engaged in other activities throughout her life such as ice skating and volleyball.

​She also enjoyed traveling to the West Coast to visit places such as Crater Lake, Mount Hood, and Mount St. Helen. Most of all, she loves to visit the West Coast because her daughter lives there now.

​Connie’s favorite time of year is the holiday season as she loves gathering with her family to celebrate the holidays. Connie shared that her greatest accomplishments are being a nurse and raising her family.

​She is very proud of her children who all have master’s degrees. Education is very important to Connie as she states the most pivotal moment in her life was achieving her nursing degree.

​Connie is new to Melody Living!

​She moved to our assisted living neighborhood because it was close to her family and she shares that she enjoys attending our weekly activities such as our educational programs, live entertainment, and our live rosary group where she gets to spend time with some of her former church members.

​Since moving to Melody Living assisted living in early October, Connie continues to acclimate to her new home every day and finds something new she enjoys at our campus. We are so happy she has joined the Melody Living community.
