Love Your Pet Day

2/20/2022

Love Your Pet Day
Melody Living Lake in the Hills’ assisted living community is embracing “Love Your Pet Day.”  We are proud to welcome small pets like cats and dogs with open arms. These pets make the move into a senior living community a lot more comfortable for our residents.

Our current four-legged residents include, Guido and Bandit, the schnauzer. Three cats also call Melody Living Lake in the Hills home. Smokey, Austin and Mr. Big are a few new furry friends moving in this week. Our animal companions improve the overall wellness of the humans around them. Here’s how…

CompanionshipHaving a pet in a senior living community can create a sense of peace, familiarity, and duty. Pets within our community are also great for residents who may live alone as that extra sense of company and companionship can make all the difference in their day. Residents who don't have pets often look forward to visiting with dogs as they stroll along our outdoor paths at our senior housing community. Studies indicate petting a dog or cat is also an automatic stress reliever.
Love Your Pet Day
ExerciseDogs like to walk and they like to walk every day. Senior pet owners have a great sense of responsibility to take a dog out a few times a day. The walk outside and then back in provides great exercise for both the dog and the owner as well as impacting Environmental Wellness with the fresh air. For those of us that count steps, dogs are great motivation to move.

Quality of lifeStudies indicate that having a pet can not only improve your quality of life (reducing loneliness, stress, anxiety, and depression), but people who own pets tend to live longer. Pets provide an improved quality of life due to the reduction of stress and cardiovascular related diseases and pet owners also carry a sense of purpose each day more than those that don’t.
To learn more about our dedication to providing a pet friendly assisted living community, feel free to give us a call at 847.957.7070. We also would be happy to schedule your own private in-person tour of our senior living community, send us a message here.
