Assisted Living April Resident Feature

4/26/2023

Assisted Living April Resident Feature
Meet Ray Tamoshunas, our assisted living resident feature this April.

Ray was born in Lithuania and when he was just eight years old, he moved to Germany. He was forced to leave his childhood home due to the Russian Army and the start of WWII. He lived in Germany until he was about 12 years old. Once he left Germany, he then moved to Boston, Massachusetts for 13 years, where he attended middle school, and high school.
Ray attended Northeastern University in Boston where he graduated with his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering.

Ray’s occupation was a traveling troubleshooter for Xerox. 15 years into his career with Xerox he attended the University of Rochester, New York where he received his MBA. Ray retired after 30 years of service with Xerox. Through his job, he traveled to all 50 states, Great Britain, and The White House. Ray is also a veteran of the United States Army; he retired as a Captain in 1959.
His greatest accomplishment is when he married his wife, Zee, and put her through school to be a pharmacist. Zee made it clear she wanted to finish school and wait until she was 20 before she got married. Ray has three children, five grandchildren and one grand dog; he loves all of them dearly.

Ray speaks Lithuanian and English fluently, and in the past, he spoke German as well. Ray’s favorite hobby is reading the Economist Magazine every week. Ray loves this magazine because it always has new information about things that are happening all over the world.

Ray's favorite holiday to celebrate is Christmas because he loves spending the holidays with his family.

A pivotal moment in history for Ray was when the Second World War started, as Ray remembers having to leave his house on foot in order to get away from the Russian Army, forcing his family to start over in Germany and later in Massachusetts.

Ray has traveled to every country in Europe several times with his wife. He’s also traveled to New Zealand, and Australia. Once a year, Ray and his wife would travel to Mexico for an annual vacation together.

Ray chose Melody Living Lake in the Hills after relocating from Rochester, New York to be closer to his daughter. He enjoys it when Robin, our Life Enrichment Director, plans fun and interesting events such as educational or musical programs, going on outings to fun places, attending parties, and partaking in Wine of the Week.

Ray’s advice is to “be nice to everyone, so they can be nice to you.”  We hope you come by to visit and discover what a Life in Harmony™ is like at our luxury  assisted living and memory care community so you can get the chance to meet other residents like Ray. Visit our contact page or give us a call at 847.957.7070 - to learn more.
