New Year Resolutions for Seniors

1/4/2023

New Year Resolutions for Seniors
Come early January, everyone is writing down their resolutions, but only about 9% of people actually stick to them. The problem is, so many people focus on creating unsustainable resolutions that drastically change their lives in a short amount of time. We’ve gathered a few sustainable New Year’s resolution ideas for you to try out this year, and hopefully stick to.

Fitness
Getting active is one of the most common resolutions people make, but many try to jump in too fast and quickly burn themselves out. The key to maintaining fitness goals in the New Year is to make those goals simple, attainable, and fun.

Melody Living’s state-of-the-art fitness center is well-equipped for residents of all capabilities with onsite fitness experts to assist residents in the use of fitness equipment as well as a variety of fitness classes and fun exercise games.

Eat healthier
Another resolution that often gets dropped far too quickly is healthy eating. Including more veggies and nutritious foods into your diet should be a goal for everyone as it leads to a healthier lifestyle overall.

Our in-house gourmet chef creates delicious fine dining, three meals a day plus anytime snacks all filled with nutritious foods and seasonal fruits and vegetables to keep our residents healthy with every meal.
Socializing
Staying social is just as important for our health as eating healthier and getting physical activity. Interacting with friends and family is great for our social wellness and emotional wellness. Engaging in activities you enjoy, especially with people who have similar interests and you enjoy being around, can help to develop better mental health.

Taking part in activities such as gardening, art, reading, card games, and puzzles not only is fun, but also has multiple benefits for brain health. Melody Living hosts multiple clubs, each created based on our residents' interests. You should never stop trying to learn new things, plus, it’s a great way to promote occupational wellness!

Create a risk-free living environment
As we age, our environment may not remain suitable for our living needs. Our homes need to be risk-free to prevent falls that may impact how we live. Environmental wellness goes beyond just enjoying the place we live, but also means creating a living space that is a safe environment.

Creating a risk-free living environment should be a priority, especially as we age, to ensure we avoid easily preventable falls that can drastically change the way we live our lives. Melody Living partners with Paxxon Healthcare Services for our Fall Prevention Program. Whether or not you are a Melody Living resident, Paxxon can help by completing a home inspection to identify key fall risks.
The 8 Dimensions of Wellness is at the center of everything we do here at Melody Living Lake in the Hills, even our New Year’s resolutions. Give us a call today to learn more about Melody Living and to schedule a tour of our Lake in the Hills retirement community for seniors.
