Melody Resident in Assisted Living Lake in the Hills

2/8/2023

Getting to know each of our residents at our senior living Lake in the Hills community is one of the best perks of becoming a part of our family.

We want you to get to know them as well. This February, we are featuring our assisted living community resident, David Rosenthal, who shared a bit about his life with us - keep reading!

David was born and raised in Chicago IL, where he completed junior high and high school. He then attended the University of Michigan where he received his bachelor’s degree in engineering.

David has a beautiful wife by the name of Dr. Bailie Rosenthal. Within the same week of graduating with his bachelor’s degree, David married his wife before going into the U.S. Navy for three years. They have two children, a son and a daughter, four grandchildren and two great grand-dogs.
After his time serving in the Navy as a Lieutenant, David and his wife settled in Farmington Hills, Michigan for the next 50 years. David has worked his whole life starting from the age of five years old. David’s first job was in 1941 selling water to the neighbors where he was making five cents per gallon.

David was a successful project manager for seven years and also started a construction business with his son for 18 years. His son was president of the company, and David was the vice president. They both had an excellent relationship while working together. After he retired, David volunteered as a mediation professor for 20 years.
David is also a published author with one book currently out on shelves, and two more in the process of being published. David’s favorite hobbies are photography and stained glass making.

David has even had several offers to purchase some of his stained-glass work. The most pivotal time in history for David was when Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets, passed away; David loved his creativity.

His favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because, “Thanksgiving has no denomination, and it’s a time to be with family.”

When asked about travel, David shared that his favorite place to visit is Hawaii. He remembers his visits there were amazing every time he went. He feels the people in Hawaii are very down-to-earth, the weather is beautiful, and he loves swimming in tropical waters.

David’s special talent is being lazy. He says, “Lazy people figure out how to accomplish tasks with less effort.” His greatest accomplishment though, is changing one of his student’s lives while teaching his mediation courses. Making sure she felt confident in anything she did, no matter what her background was or where she came from, was important to him. He’s proud to say she left his class feeling like she could do anything.

David’s daughter recommended Melody Living to him and his wife, and he feels this is the best choice his daughter could have made for them.

David shared that upon arriving, he and his wife felt like they were already home. He appreciates the efforts the staff put in to make sure every resident's welfare is taken care of at all times.
David’s advice for others is that, “People are capable of solving their own problems, they just don’t always believe they are.”

We hope you come by to visit and discover what a Life in Harmony™ is like at our assisted living and memory care community so you can get the chance to meet other residents like the Rosenthals. Visit our contact page or give us a call at 847.957.7070 - to learn more.
