Meet Meg Cordell, our featured independent living resident! We love getting to know each of our residents here at Melody Living and we hope you enjoy getting to know more about Meg and her life. Born in Oklahoma City, Meg's early years were spent moving to Louisiana and then Mississippi before her family settled in Chicago, where her father found a new job opportunity. Meg is a proud mother of a son and a daughter and a loving grandmother to two grandsons. Her family has always been her anchor, providing her with joy and purpose throughout her life. Her father, a Navy veteran, recently celebrated his 104th birthday, a milestone that adds to the rich tapestry of her family's history. For 20 years, Meg worked as an aerobics instructor, sharing her passion for fitness and well-being. After her children were born, she balanced her time between raising them and working part-time in retail. Although she speaks English, she has an interest in learning French or Spanish someday. Meg's hobbies are a testament to her active and creative spirit. She enjoys exercising, coloring, knitting, and engaging in various crafts. Her richly scheduled life keeps her engaged and fulfilled. Christmas holds a special place in Meg's heart. Every year, her family carries on the tradition of hanging needlepoint stockings originally made by her mother and opening one gift on Christmas Eve. A pivotal moment in history for Meg was 9/11. She recalls working a shift at GAP when the tragic news broke. The employees were sent home, and Meg spent the rest of the day watching the heartbreaking events unfold on television. Meg's special talent lies in her motivation and passion for teaching exercise, a gift that has undoubtedly touched many lives. Her favorite place to visit is Las Vegas, where her son lives, but her dream destinations are Greece and Italy, for their rich history and delectable cuisine. When asked about her greatest accomplishment, Meg doesn't hesitate to mention the birth of her two beautiful children. They are her pride and joy, and she is grateful for the people they have become. Meg chose Melody Living as her home because of its new, beautifully decorated facility. The full-size kitchen, washer and dryer, and balcony in her senior living apartment were important factors in her decision. Since moving in, Meg has enjoyed many of the amenities, especially the fitness center, the well-equipped kitchen, and the diverse activities that keep her engaged and entertained. Despite her confident and outgoing demeanor, Meg considers herself to be relatively shy. Her advice to others is, "Use it or lose it," a reminder of the importance of staying active and engaged.
