Meet Our Assisted Living Resident - Grace Pope

Melody Living appreciates every single one of our senior living residents and we want you to get to know them as well. This month, we are featuring our community resident, Grace Pope, who just celebrated her 97th birthday!
 
Grace was born in Hinsdale, Illinois and has since lived in many towns in Illinois before settling in Lake in the Hills. Grace’s husband was a farmer, and she worked as a legal secretary. They were married for 62 years. Together, they raised four children, had 7 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren with another on the way. Her greatest accomplishment is living to see all her grandkids get married.

​Grace has always loved to create things with her hands, she has made beautiful counted cross stitch, crocheted, and Swedish weaving pieces among other items and she continues to create whenever she can. Her favorite holiday is Christmas, and she loves celebrating with her family by spending time with them.

​She has lived through many historical events including when Franklin Roosevelt died and when President John F. Kennedy was killed. Grace has lived through so many changes in our country and has fascinating stories to share with anyone who has a desire to learn about history from someone who has lived through it. Just ask and she’d love to share with you what she’s experienced.
 
Grace says that her special talent is “being organized”! Grace was the Convention Chairman for her church's conferences which hosted over 1,000 attendees. She really enjoyed her time doing that continued act of service for her community.
 
Grace also loves to travel and she does so frequently. She and her late husband traveled often, so much so, she also has a timeshare that she truly utilizes. One of her favorite locations is St. George, Utah, as she has fond memories of going there with her daughters. Grace has visited all 50 states as well as several other countries; she's quite the globetrotter.

​Here at Melody Living assisted living and memory care in Lake in the Hills, Grace enjoys participating in the exercise programs as well as our crafting programs, and loves having friends to eat meals with in the dining room. Her faith is important to her, so she really enjoys that St John’s provides a service on Mondays that she can attend.
 
Grace’s key to staying young and her advice to others, is to “make the most of every day you have and appreciate it.”
