 At Melody Living Lake in the Hills, we are honored to feature the incredible story of Gloria Sidman, a resident whose life is a testament to resilience, family, and a love for community. We love getting to know each of our residents and hope you enjoy learning more about Gloria! Gloria was born and raised in Chicago, where she spent most of her life. Her parents, who emigrated from Italy in the 1900s, instilled in her a deep appreciation for her heritage. Fluent in both Italian and English, Gloria has always embraced her cultural roots while forging her path in America. Gloria's family is her pride and joy. She has three children, nine grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren, each of whom holds a special place in her heart. Christmas is her favorite holiday because it brings the entire family together for joyous gatherings, creating memories that last a lifetime.  Gloria dedicated 42 years of her life to working as a telephone operator for Illinois Bell, where she was known for her excellent customer service skills and helpful nature. Her late husband, a World War II veteran, served in the Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic and tail gunner. Gloria vividly recalls the pivotal moment in history when World War II started and how her husband, his brother, cousins, and friends all signed up to serve after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. One of Gloria's dreams was to visit Lucca, Italy, where her parents were born. This dream came true in 1993 when she traveled to Italy and reconnected with her roots, meeting nieces who still live there. This trip remains one of her most cherished memories. Gloria's greatest accomplishment, however, is raising her three children and seeing them grow into remarkable individuals. She takes immense pride in her family and the love and support they all share. In her spare time, Gloria enjoys watching "Blue Bloods" and "Shark Tank." She has always found joy in working and staying active. At Melody Living, she continues to embrace new hobbies and activities, enriching her daily life.  Gloria chose Melody Living Lake in the Hills because her daughter found the community to be inviting, with cheerful staff and beautifully decorated spaces. Here, Gloria has found a second family and enjoys participating in various activities and amenities. She loves attending all bingo games, playing board games, and enjoying the live entertainment. Mealtimes are a special highlight for Gloria, as she cherishes the amazing cuisine and social time with new friends.
