Meet Melody Living’s Memory Care Resident of the Month

​Meet November’s featured resident of the month, Howard Simpson! We love getting to know each of our residents here at Melody Living’s memory care community in Lake in the Hills. Highlighting a resident each month is one of our favorite ways of sharing their stories so you can get to know them too. We can’t wait for you to get to learn more about Howard!
 
Howard Simpson was born on January 18, 1938. He and his wife Clara had 2 children, Jennifer and Christopher. Howard and Clara are the proud grandparents of 6 grandchildren, 3 girls and 3 boys. They were married for 55 years and lived a wonderful life together.

​Howard worked as a high school chemistry teacher for more than 30 years. After he retired from teaching, Howard and his wife both went back to school to become physical therapist assistants.

​He and Clara were very involved in their church, they enjoyed volunteering and having families over to their house. One of Howard’s many talents is talking with people and helping people out.
 
Although Howard did not serve in the military, he shared that his older brother, Don, was in the Army. His son Christopher went to the United States Military Academy West Point for college and continued with a career in the United States Army. 

​​Howard has many hobbies and he loves playing sports such as tennis, golf, and basketball. He also enjoys fishing with his friends.

​After he retired, Howard and Clara enjoyed having time for cooking and gardening together. Howard’s favorite place to visit is his daughter’s house where they would spend summer vacations, he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren.

​They enjoy many activities like mountain climbing, horseback rides, and even white water rafting. They also used to spend many hours playing marbles and Monopoly as a family.
 
Howard and Clara enjoyed trips to Hawaii with friends as well. Howard’s favorite holiday is Christmas, it is a time to spend with the grandkids and he loves decorating for the season. 

​Howard’s greatest accomplishment in life is his dedication to working with students and helping them through their teenage years. He also is very proud of raising his family.
 
Howard and his family chose Melody Living as his home so that Howard could be closer to his family. They truly enjoy the living space that Melody Living has to offer and the staff in the Memory Care neighborhood. Howard enjoys reading, participating in physical therapy, and interacting with staff.
 
Howard’s words of wisdom would be to “Enjoy life and spending time with your family.”
