Meet Melody Living’s February Featured Independent Living Resident

​This month’s Melody Living independent living featured resident is Sarah McGill! We are so excited to have Sarah as a part of our Lake in the Hills senior community and for you to learn more about her life.
 
Sarah McGill is a proud mother of four and a doting grandmother to seven grandchildren. Her professional journey includes serving as a teacher for 3rd to 6th graders and managing bookkeeping responsibilities for her husband's business.

​Sarah's family has a strong military legacy, with her husband serving in the Army and her two brothers in the Navy and Marines. Beyond her family and career, Sarah has devoted countless hours to volunteer work, notably with the Senior Care Volunteer Network and at her church for over 30 years.

​Sarah has a strong desire to pick up a new language, and if given the chance, she would choose French. Her hobbies include sewing blankets for her children and grandchildren, watching college football and basketball, and delving into genealogy by creating a family tree. Sarah also aspires to explore new hobbies like crocheting and knitting.
 
Christmas holds a special place in Sarah's heart. She cherishes the tradition of her grandkids coming over the Friday after Thanksgiving to decorate the tree, share memories through childhood ornaments, and indulge in a hearty dinner together. Sarah's special talent lies in her ability to care for and help children, a quality that has undoubtedly shaped her role as a mother and teacher. For Sarah, her greatest accomplishment is being blessed with a loving family. 

​Her favorite places to visit include Ireland to connect with relatives and spending summer days at Crystal Lake Beach with her grandchildren. Her dream destination, however, would have to be Hawaii for the beautiful scenery. A pivotal moment in history that left a lasting impact on Sarah was the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. She vividly recalls returning home from college classes and witnessing the unfolding tragedy on TV.

Sarah was looking for a senior living community close to the Crystal Lake area in order to continue her volunteer work and Melody Living checked all her boxes. Sarah values the diverse activities and amenities offered at Melody Living, including playing cards, dime bingo, and the ease of socializing with fellow community members.
 
Sarah's advice for others is to "be patient and understanding with others; we don't know what's going on in that person's life."
