Meet Layla! Layla is Melody Living Lake in the Hills’ independent senior living Activities Director, coordinating and producing activities and events for residents of the newest retirement community in the Chicago area. Growing up and living in Marengo, IL, Layla enjoys fishing in the Kishwaukee River and running on the HUM Trail. While in high school, she played 4 different varsity sports. She has a sister and acts as a live-in caregiver for her grandmother. She says her grandma is a great chef and loves it when she can enjoy her cooking. Outside of work, Layla enjoys watching true crime shows, keeping up with her fitness, and playing video games. She loves fall activities and having bonfires with her friends, she’s excited that the season is finally shifting to the cooler autumn days. Layla is also in the Army National Guard and has been for 5 years now. With her position at Melody Living independent living in Lake in the Hills, Layla works hard to build relationships with residents and the community to create a lively and entertaining environment that both residents and their families can enjoy. Her favorite part of the job is participating in the activities she plans with the residents. She also enjoys getting to know each resident while learning more about their wisdom and life stories. Layla says she feels that she can impact the community by creating an environment where the residents can make friendships and continue to learn new things while still maintaining their independence. She has always enjoyed spending time with seniors and being able to learn from them. “I would do anything to make my grandmother happy and I’ve grown to share that goal with every senior I meet,” said Layla.
