 Meet Melody Living Independent Living Lake in the Hills’ First Resident Meet Melody Living Lake in the Hill's first-ever resident, AnnaMae Carlson! AnnaMae was the Chicago area retirement community’s first depositor to its newest senior living apartments. We can’t wait for you to meet AnnaMae as we continue to welcome each new resident to their Life in Harmony™. AnnaMae was born and raised in Chicago, IL, she has 4 children, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. AnnaMae’s career history included being a mother, an office manager for her husband’s company, and working in the marketing department for a book publishing company. After 16 years of being a stay-at-home mother, her first job was working multigraphs. Her husband, Russel, served in the Navy as a plane mechanic for 3 years and continued to serve in the Navy Reserves.  AnnaMae spoke Swedish as a child and would like to pick up that language again. Her hobbies include knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint. She used to make her, and her daughter matching outfits by hand. Annamae says her greatest accomplishment is raising her 4 children, she always dreamed of being a mother. Her favorite holiday is Christmas, AnnaMae always loves having all of her family get together. One of AnnaMae's special talents is playing the piano. After 7 years of piano lessons, she still has all her sheet music. Each of her children has taken piano lessons as well. A pivotal moment in history she remembers most was watching the tragedies of 9/11 unfold on the news and bringing her TV to work so she and her family could watch. Her favorite place to visit is her parent’s lakefront property in Stormy Lake, Wisconsin. As a side business, her parents eventually turned the property into a resort with over nine cabins and an icehouse. When her parents went to Sweden, they saved every address they went to in a book, and she would love to go one day and visit those same places.  She chose Melody Living independent living because her husband, Russell, is currently living in Melody Living's assisted living community right next door. Melody Living’s continuum of care makes it easier for AnnaMae to see her husband with more freedom. It also helps her to rest easy knowing he is being cared for and that she can check in on him at any time.
With her busy schedule, AnnaMae is currently spending most of her time focusing on her husband and getting her apartment sorted. However, she looks forward to joining all the fun events Melody Living holds for our residents each week.
